-> RGMP3 - a ID3 to FILE_ID.DIZ Converter <- - Generik Productions '99 - °±²Û What Does it do? Û²±° Well, manually uploading Mp3s can take a while (Especially if you have lots of em to do). And it's damn annoying especially if the MP3 already has an internal description that you can't touch. What RGMP3 does is extract that description and makes a FILE_ID.DIZ file that Renegade can import. This way, as long as the MP3s contain descriptions, then you're clear sailing. Sure beats the hell out of having to enter all those titles and artists individually. Command Line: RGMP3 This will create a file_id.diz from the in the current directory. °±²Û Setting it up Û²±° Just a couple steps to setting Renegade up to work with it: Step 1 - Move the EXE file to the directory that you have setup in RG as the "Archivers directory" Step 2 - Make sure RG is setup to use FILE_ID.DIZ descriptions if it finds them. (in the File System Configuration menu) Step 3 - Configure Renegade to consider an MP3 file to be an archive. Go into the Archive Configuration (From the System Configuration menu) and add a new Archive type. Step 4 - Modify the new archive type to look exactly like the one below: Archive x of x 1. Active : Yes 2. Extension name : MP3 3. Interior list method : *None* 4. Compression cmdline : *None* 5. Decompression cmdline : rgmp3 %F 6. File testing cmdline : rgmp3 %F 7. Add comment cmdline : *None* 8. Errorlevel for success : -1 (ignores) Q. Quit Edit menu: (1-8,[,],Q): That's it! Now whenever a MP3 file is uploaded (locally or remotely) it'll create a FILE_ID.DIZ if there is a description in the MP3. *Note* It doesn't use any of RG's data files (only uses RG colour codes in the DIZ file) so it should work ok with other BBS programs. °±²Û Misc Û²±° Couple things I'd like to add in the next version: - Being able to completely configure the look of the .DIZ file. - Support for more ID3 description formats (Currently it only supports ID3 v1.0) If you have any probs or questions (or want to contribute instructions to getting it to work with other BBS programs) drop me a line: BBS: The Resurrection (519) 571-0197 or telnet://resbbs.darktech.org Email: resbbs@darktech.org Also check out the Generik Productions website (www.darktech.org/resbbs) for updates and other BBS stuff.
